Frequently Asked Questions

What leather will Blackrock work on?

Blackrock will work on all finished leather.

Blackrock is safe to use on boots, shoes, saddles, tack, furniture, car interiors, and everything in between.

It is not designed for use on suede or nubuck.

As my grandma always said, if it's leather, use Blackrock.

Will Blackrock Protect Against Water?

Yes, Blackrock is made with carnauba wax and will add a layer of protection against water helping make your leather water repellent. Blackrock will not waterproof your leather.

What color leather does Blackrock work on?

Blackrock is formulated to work on any color leather.

Will Blackrock darken my leather?

Blackrock is formulated to work on any color leather without darkening it. However, we recommend testing a small amount on an inconspicuous spot first to make sure you get the desired results.

Occasionally, the leather will darken when using Blackrock but from our experience after allowing to dry the leather will return to its original state.

My leather feels sticky after applying Blackrock.

Tacky or stickiness happens with overconditioning. This can easily happen applying too much product to the leather all at once the pores experience build up causing the leather to feel tacky or sticky.

To help avoid this, is best to apply a small amount of Blackrock and work from there. A little bit of our product goes a long ways.

However, there is no need for concern about the stickiness. It will fade away.

When this happens, get a cotton cloth to buff the leather to help dry it. If you have a horsehair brush, this will help to buff the leather. Then allow it to dry. Once it has been allowed to dry the stickiness will go away.

If it still feels tacky or sticky, use a straight leather cleaner to strip all the oils and give it a deep cleaning. Then apply a small amount of conditioner to replenish the oils in the leather.

How often should I use Blackrock?

A general rule of thumb is at least once a season (spring, summer, fall, winter.) However, there is no set guideline on how often to apply Blackrock because of the variations in leather and the types of uses.

How often you apply Blackrock depends on how often you use your leather and what type of conditions the leather is used in.

If you use your leather every day, you will need to apply Blackrock more often than someone who wear their boots only for special occasions.

The best indicator of when to apply Blackrock is if the leather feels dry or looks dirty.

What are the ingredients?

Well, that's a family secret. Blackrock is made following my grandfather's recipe.

What I can tell you is that Blackrock is a proprietary blend of carnauba wax, natural and mineral oils with a water base.

If you have a specific allergy and would like to know more, please don't hesitate to reach out!

What is carnauba wax?

The heart of our product is carnauba wax and is what makes Blackrock stand out from other leather care products.

Carnauba wax is a vegetable wax obtained from the leaves of a Brazilian palm tree known as the "Tree of life."

Carnauba wax is the hardest and most resistant of natural waxes.

The protection carnauba wax offers is better when compared to other waxes. When used on leather, carnauba wax imparts a high luster and exceptionally brilliant long-lasting shine.

How do I apply Blackrock?

My grandma taught me to apply Blackrock using my fingertips. Take a small amount and apply in a circular motion into the leather article.

Using your fingertips helps the leather to absorb Blackrock and to rehydrate the leather fibers.

You can watch a video here of how to apply Blackrock on a pair of leather boots.

Does Blackrock Work on exotic leather?

Yes, Blackrock is safe to use on all exotic leathers such as snakeskin, shark, gator, and ostrich. I do recommend testing a small amount in an inconspicuous spot first to make sure you get the desired results.
